Annual Reviews & Seasonal Checkups

Annual Reviews & Seasonal Checkups

Staying on top of your home's health is the core of Soffit. Here's how annual reviews and seasonal checkups work.

Annual Reviews

Your annual review is a guided walkthrough of your entire property. It's how Soffit builds (and refreshes) your home's profile — the systems, the rooms, the condition of everything.

What to expect

The review has four phases. You can leave and come back anytime — progress is saved automatically.

Phase 1: Exterior photos — Walk around the outside of your home and take photos from several angles. Our AI will analyze these to identify things like your roof material, siding type, AC units, and more. We also pull public property data (year built, square footage, etc.) to fill in the basics.

Phase 2: Property review — We show you everything we found and let you confirm or correct it. Room counts, property type, materials — all editable. Once you confirm, we generate your full property profile.

Phase 3: Interior photos — Room by room, you'll photograph the interior of your home. Each room has a few required shots (and some optional ones). The AI identifies systems in your photos — water heater, furnace, electrical panel, etc.

Phase 4: Systems review — We show you every system we detected and let you add, remove, or adjust. Once you confirm, the review is complete and your Soffit Score is calculated.

The whole thing takes about 15-20 minutes, but there's no rush.

First review vs. subsequent reviews

Your first annual review also serves as ownership verification — the GPS data in your photos confirms you're at the property you claimed. After that, subsequent annual reviews follow the same four phases to refresh your property data and track changes over time.

Seasonal Checkups

Four times a year, Soffit walks you through seasonal maintenance tasks personalized to your home. Only tasks relevant to your systems show up — you won't see "flush tankless water heater" if you don't have one.

The schedule

  • Spring (March): Air filter, cooling system inspection, dryer vent, washing machine hoses
  • Summer (June): Air filter, under-sink checks, water heater maintenance, sump pump
  • Fall (September): Air filter, GFCI outlets, gutters, water shut-off valve
  • Winter (December): Air filter, smoke/CO detectors, electrical panel, hose bibs

Two-phase process

Prep phase (available 1 week before the checkup month) — Take a few quick photos of system labels so we can figure out exactly what materials you need. Filter sizes, battery types, model numbers — we extract it all. Then you get a personalized shopping list. Takes about 5 minutes, and it's optional (but really helpful, especially your first time).

The best part: once we've captured your specs, future prep phases get shorter. By your third or fourth checkup, it's basically just "here's your list, anything changed?"

Execute phase (available the 1st of the checkup month, due by month's end) — Work through your tasks at your own pace, in any order. Each task has a how-to video if you need guidance, plus a list of materials needed (if you did the prep). When you're done with a task, snap a verification photo and move on.

Tips for a smooth checkup

  • Do the prep. Seriously. Knowing exactly what filter size or battery type you need before you start saves a trip to the hardware store mid-checkup.
  • Keep location services on for your photos.
  • You can pause anytime. Each task saves as you go — no need to finish everything in one sitting.
  • Watch the videos if you're doing a task for the first time. They're short (2-3 minutes) and show you exactly what to do.

What happens when I finish?

When all tasks are done, your checkup is marked complete, your Soffit Score updates, and your next quarterly checkup is scheduled. You'll get a summary showing how many tasks you completed and how your score changed.
